My name is Kosi Duba. I am 94 years old. I have six children, five girls, and one boy. All married and gave birth. Me and my wife are living alone. Before the drought, I used to live in Dire, Woreda Gololcha Kebele. Our livelihood was dependent on rearing cattle and farming. I had 22 cattle and 22 goats. We have had no rain for six rainy seasons, so the cattle and goats are all gone. Since we had no food or drink, we moved to Anole Kebele in the Dubluk district where we are now to save our lives.
Since we came here, we have received various support from the government and other organizations. We were empty-handed when we left home, so when we came here, we were at a loss for household items to use. One day, an organization that helps older people called HelpAge gathered older people to this IDP site, selected the neediest older people from each kebele, and gave us material support. They provided us with water collection jerrycans, plastic washing boul, clothing & body soap, and water treatment chemicals, and I was the beneficiary of the opportunity.
Its support was very useful for us. Before support, we didn’t have such materials at home. We were fetching water from the nearby pond that animals and people are using together, and most of the time we were infected by water-borne diseases. Since HelpAge provided us with water treatment, this problem has been solved for us. We are very grateful to HelpAge for providing us with this support. May God bless you!
